Inventing a new year

Welcome January, the two-faced month. If you know your history, the month got its name from the Roman god Janus, who had two faces, one in the front and one in the back. Interestingly, according to ancient Roman farmer calendars, Janus wasn't the deity of the month. It was Juno. But that's a whole other story...

Apparently it's a new year too - 2015. I don't get people who make new year resolutions and vow that everything is going to be better from now on. Why now? What's so special about a number? It's all in their heads.

Instead of following the Gregorian calendar I've created my own: the Gregarious calendar. For those who don't know, gregarious means someone who enjoys the company of other people. I've decided that my new year will begin July 1. I'll probably celebrate it with champagne, chocolate and strawberries. And (small) fireworks. :)

Anyway. January. Gloom and doom. Extremely tedious. Still dark. Cold. Stormy and rainy. The weather has prevented me from exercising about a week and I'm Mr Cranky Pants. In service I'm forced to wear layers of thick stockings - like a straight jacket for legs. Back at work I'm being chased by all the tasks that weren't done before the vacation. My skin is dry and grey.

But, hey! Everything isn't totally disastrous. I haven't given up yet. There have been some constructive occurences the past weeks. Actually I cleansed my fridge the other day. A huge accomplishment! Then I tried some new recipes that turned out really great. (Remember that I don't really like cooking). In December I visited my parents and my sister. And I went with some friends to a small island in the archipelago and enjoyed good company, tasty food and a steaming sauna. Unfortunately I was too scared of jumping in the cold water outside. Thought my heart would stop. Maybe next time I'll muster up the courage. Also, there was the beautiful dedication (not sure I'm using the right word here) of the new Kingdom Hall.

Well. No matter the weather tomorrow, I'm going for a run.

My fridge has never been this clean! Or empty.

Trying a new recipe. Falafel. Yum!

Crazy people at sea.

The cabin with an open fire, a sauna and a small kitchen. We certainly didn't have to freeze!

It looks a little rough... but people were jumping into the water.

When the weather is blah...

... you go with your sister to Soup & Bagel...

.... and enjoy the best ice-cream ever afterwards
